Unaware of Parvati's creation of Ganesha for her safeguarding, Shiva inadvertently beheaded him in a confrontation. To pacify Parvati, Shiva replaced Ganesha's head with that of the first creature facing north, symbolizing wisdom, resulting in his elephant-headed visage. Ganesha's usual portrayal includes a rounded belly, four arms, a solitary tusk, and a mouse as his vehicle, each laden with profound symbolism.
The Ganesh Chaturthi festival, notably significant in Maharashtra, honors his influence, culminating in the immersion of Ganesha idols in water bodies, symbolizing life's cyclical nature.
